Snapchat is easily among today’s most famous instant messaging apps. Not only does Snapchat allow you to socialize and connect with your friends easily, but it also allows you to keep up with your memories by simply downloading the pictures you take on that app. The problem, however, is getting accustomed to Snapchat’s interface, especially if you’ve just joined recently.
If you can’t figure out how to view mutual friends on Snapchat and are stuck, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Multiple new users face a similar difficulty, and that’s because Snapchat takes privacy pretty seriously. Although you can’t see someone else’s friend list, you can still see and connect with specific mutual friends on Snapchat. In this guide, I’ll explain everything you need to know to see mutual friends on Snapchat, so read on!
Table of Contents
What are mutual friends on Snapchat?
In simple words, the friends of your friends are your mutuals. Unfortunately, although it’s pretty simple to view your friends on Snapchat, there’s no practical way to view the list of people that your friends have added.
This is because Snapchat takes privacy quite seriously. For example, unlike other popular instant messaging apps such as Instagram, Snapchat keeps friend lists hidden from other viewers. Mutual Friends are the same as 1st degree connections on LinkedIn (see What Does 1st, 2nd, 3rd Mean on LinkedIn?)
How to see and add mutuals on Snapchat
Although you can’t view someone’s friend list, Snapchat does give you loads of suggestions based on mutual friends. Several categories of people Snapchat might suggest aren’t just mutual; you can see and add those people to your contacts. Their Snapchat account will be on the list as that is another way Snapchat allows you to increase your mutuals.
The two ways to help see and add mutual friends on Snapchat are:
Method #1) Quick Add
Adding mutual friends is easier because of the Quick Add feature. With this feature, you might have acquaintances ly people whose numbers you have saved on your phone.
The people listed under the Quick Add category will have 3+ Mutual Friends written under their name if they have more than three friends in common with you – the mutual friend count can even go up to 20 and above!
To go to the Quick Add option, all you have to do is follow these five steps.
- On your iOS or Android phone, open the Snapchat app by clicking on it and logging into your account.
- On the upper left corner is an icon with your bitmoji on it.
- As you click on your bitmoji, your profile is immediately pulled up.
- Navigate to and look under the Friends category.
- There is an Add Friends option, and as you click on it, it will open your Add Friends feature.
- On your screen is the Add Friends category. You’ll see people who have added you. If your account is private, these will be requests of people who want to add you. Accepting or denying it is up to you. Right below it is the Quick Add section.
- Click Add in the Quick Add section.
- All you have to do now is click on the Add option to add whomever you see fit.
Method #2) Add Friends
There is a shortcut to open your Add Friends section swiftly.
- Open Snapchat and log into your account.
- As you click on the Snapchat icon, your profile will be loaded immediately once you sign in to your account.
- In the upper right corner, there is a camera flip icon.
- Immediately to the left of the camera flip icon, there is the Add Friends option. Click on it.
- Avail of the Add Friends feature.
- Opening your Add Friends feature, there is a search bar on the top of the page. You can either search people and directly add them by their username or scan their snap code to add them. The Quick Add feature is present to use too.
The only reason you may not see someone’s account in your Quick Add, even while having numerous mutuals, could be their account privacy setting. On the other hand, it could very well be that your internet connection is weak. It doesn’t hurt to reload and check again.
Can I see others’ mutual friends on Snapchat?
Unfortunately, no. Due to privacy concerns, you cannot see someone else’s mutuals that they might share with someone other than you, regardless of whether their account is public. It is a secretive business, so you might have to ask them directly if you genuinely need to know.
Another exciting thing is that you can see your friend’s friend list once when you guys have added each other back, and their privacy setting allows you to access it.
Can others add me through Quick Add on Snapchat?
Do you wish to see if you’re available to be added through someone else’s Quick Add the same way other people can be seen and added by you? You would have to turn on this specific feature, and here’s how to do it.
- Click on the Snapchat icon.
- On your iOS or Android phone, open the Snapchat app by clicking on it and logging into your account.
- On the upper left corner is an icon with your bitmoji on it. As you click on your bitmoji, your profile is immediately pulled up.
- In the upper right corner, there is a gear emoji.
- Click on it to open Settings.
- Scroll till you see the Privacy Control category.
- Under Privacy Controls, you have to click an option of See Me in Quick Add.
- Click on the checkbox beside See Me in Quick Add.
By clicking on the checkbox, you allow other people to find and add you through their Quick Add category. If you need to undo it, click on it again to uncheck it so you won’t be suggested to any mutual friends anymore.
Snapchat+ and what it’s about
Recently, Snapchat+ has been introduced and released in several countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, amongst many others. Snapchat+ will have even more interactive features and options unseen before on regular Snapchat.
Some cool features of Snapchat+ include priority story replies, post view emoji, the option to pin your friends as #1 BFF, and custom notifications.
