Method 1: Reset HP Laptop Microsoft Password Online

  1. Visit the Microsoft Password Recovery page on any device.
  2. Enter your account details (email, phone number, Skype name), then select Next.

Note: This method will only work for laptops with at least Windows 10 version 1803.

This means that if you lose access to an account on your laptop, you can log into another account that has administrator access.

  2. Boot up your laptop and press the F11 key repeatedly until an option menu appears. 
  3. Select Troubleshoot and click Recovery Manager. Click System Recovery.
  4. If you don’t want to recover your files, click Recover without backing up your files. Otherwise, click Backup your files. Select the method you want to back up your files, and insert a hard drive if needed. Select Next, then Next again. 
  5. This will remove your locked user account, as well as all the data on your laptop.

Alternatively, you can click the Start Menu and search for the HP Recovery Manager:

  1. Select HP Recovery Manager.
  2. Select Yes when prompted by user account control.
  3. Select Windows Recovery Environment, and click OK to continue. Your laptop will restart, and you can begin with Step 3 in the previous instruction guide.

Method 4: Reset HP Laptop Password with Forgotten Password Wizard

If you have lost your password reset disk, you can create a new one with the Forgotten Password Wizard.

Here’s what you have to do:

  1. Sign in to your laptop using any local account. 
  2.  Connect a blank CD or flash drive to your laptop.
  3. Open Windows and select Control Panel from the Start menu.
  4. If you’re in category view,  select User Accounts then User Accounts again. In icons view, click User Accounts. You should see the Make changes to your user account menu.
  5. Click Create a password reset disk, and Forgotten Password Wizard should open.
  6. Click Next, and select the drive you want to add the software. Click Next again.
  7. Type the password to your current user account, then click Next.
  8. Click Next when the wizard completes. 
  9. Click Finish, and disconnect the flash drive.

This is a great backup option in case you forget your HP laptop password.

Method 5: Reset HP Laptop Password by Factory Reset

If all else fails, you can restore your HP laptop to factory settings. However, this will remove all the data on your laptop.

If you recently backed up your laptop you won’t lose much. However, if you haven’t backed up your laptop recently, it would be better to backup essential files first if you have access to any user account.

  1. Reboot your computer and press the F11 key until you enter the options menu.
  2. Click Troubleshoot on the Choose an option screen.
  3. Click Reset this PC.
  4. Choose Keep my files or Remove everything, depending on which you prefer.
  5. You will get a warning, then click Next to continue the recovery operation. This will remove all the existing user accounts and passwords. If you choose to back up your files, you will find the files on your local disk.
